Q. What is a continuing care retirement community?
Across the United States, residents, prospective residents and industry experts overwhelmingly agree that a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) such as Uplands Village provides the greatest financial security, value and peace of mind for residents and their families. A Continuing Care Retirement Community offers accommodations at every level from Single family home or duplexes, common areas and activity areas for socialization and interaction as well as on-site health care with home health, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory support. The beauty of this concept is best illustrated if and when residents require assistance. As their needs change, residents are secure in the knowledge that high-quality supportive services and care are available, when needed, in an attractive, professionally staffed, on-site environment.

Q. How do I pay for health care should I need it?
If and when the need arises where additional assistance is required either in assisted living at The Elizabeth Fletcher House or in skilled nursing at The Wharton Nursing Home, where the Ten Principles of The Eden Alternative are practiced, is on a discounted fee-for-service basis to our Members. Uplands also offers a unique health care advantage by offering Home Health Care services to our Members. Staff are licensed and certified to offer medical support services on an hourly rate to our Members. The group is unique in that it is a service of Uplands Village and is responsible solely for the care of Uplands Members. Uplands Home Health Care Services are available to all Members of Uplands Village. Nursing care is available 24 hours a day for emergency calls. Routine care is available 5 days a week. The monthly service fee paid by Members covers these basic services.

Q. Who owns and operates Uplands Village?
Uplands Village is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation governed by a self-perpetuating volunteer board of directors who hire an executive director to lead the day-to-day operations of the community. The community is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds and abides by the Federal non discriminatory statement.

Q. Are Uplands Village residents represented by an association?
Yes! The Uplands Village Assembly is comprised of resident members. The full Assembly meets quarterly. An Assembly Council consisting of a representative and alternate from each of the ten neighborhoods meets monthly between quarterly meetings. The purpose of the Assembly and Assembly Council is to provide an avenue whereby residents can better understand the significant issues and opportunities coming before the Uplands Administration and Board of Directors and offer well-informed, thoughtful and constructive input to strengthen and support a vital community true to its mission.

Q. Are the Monthly Service Fees fixed or is it subject to change?
The Monthly Service Fees are subject to change. The Monthly Service Fees are reviewed annually by the Board of Directors and management and may be adjusted based on actual operating costs. Uplands Village will maintain its costs at the lowest feasible rate consistent with sound financial practices. Notification of any increase in the Monthly Service Fee is given to all residents no less than 30 days in advance.

Q. Can I bring my pet with me to Uplands Village?
Pets are welcome as part of your family at Uplands Village, with the understanding that they will not be a nuisance to your neighbors. Pet owners will be subject to the current Uplands Village Pet Policy.

Q. What is the price range of homes and duplexes?
Uplands Village offers a range of homes and duplexes built in the 1960s to current year. Available properties range in price from $50,000 to $200,000.

Q. What medical services are available?
Uplands Village is located approximately 10 miles from the center of the medical community in Cumberland County. A hospital with a regional cancer center, emergency room and ambulance service, and diagnostic centers has over 75 general and specialized practitioners including internists, cardiologists, neurologists, endocrinologists, oncologists, and urologists with medical privileges. Additional specialists are found in Nashville, Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Cookeville and Chattanooga, all within a 100 mile radius of Uplands Village.
